Welcome to Jyväskylä, the hometown of Alvar Aalto! City of Jyväskylä is known for the design of Alvar Aalto, the world-renowned Finnish architect and designer. On our guided tour you will have a chance to see a wide collection of art and architectural works of Aalto. The recently renovated Workers’ Club, the traditional campus area of the University of Jyväskylä on Seminaarinmäki hill and an exhibition in the Alvar Aalto museum are only a few examples of the sights covered. During the tour you will also get to hear some fascinating background information about his works.

The tour is guided in English and tickets to the Alvar Aalto museum are included in the tour.

2. Traditional Finland – Sauna village

Muurame Sauna Village is a museum introducing the history of the Finnish sauna culture. The museum provides a fantastic opportunity for becoming acquainted with one of the most intriguing traditions of Finland! The visitors have a chance to bathe in a Finnish smoke sauna and in a warm outdoor bathtub - the route to understanding why the sauna has gained such good reputation amongst its users. To top the relaxing sauna experience, snacks are served on campfire – an atmospheric ending to the museum visit.

The tour includes two-way bus transportation to Muurame, a towel, sauna and snacks.

3. True Finland – Pub crawl

The pub tour will lead you to some of the most atmospheric pubs in Jyväskylä. The ambiance of the city can be sensed while enjoying some tasty drinks in good company. The tour guides are true Jyväskylä-experts and therefore you will surely get an insight on the history of Jyväskylä and what the city is like today.

The pubs covered are Sohwi, located near the beautiful campus area on Seminaarimäki hill, the bohemian and multicultural Vakiopaine, cocktail-bar Shaker and its award-winning bartenders, and Poppari, the meeting place for music lovers.

4. Skilled Finland

Samuli Alonen is a young blacksmith and artist living and working in Jyväskylä. He is also the owner of a workshop located near the city center. In the courtyard of Samuli’s workshop is an old, charming railroad car, which has been turned into a miniature-sized museum. In addition to visiting the small art exhibition of the museum, visitors can take a draisine ride and forge with the guidance of the smith himself.

Two-way bus transportation to Alonen’s workshop is included in the tour price.

5. Sustainable Finland – Secco workshop

Secco turns rubbish into ravishing art! In this interesting workshop old computer keyboards are transformed into magnets, lp-records into bracelets and safety belts into ties. While making your own unique piece of recycled art, guides from Secco tell more about the many treasures of wasteland.

The English-guided workshop will be held in the city center of Jyväskylä.

6. Dining Finland
