AINO SALLINEN PROFESSOR AINO SALLINEN Professor Aino Sallinen started her career as teacher and free lance journalist. She was elected Rector of the University of Jyväskylä in 1992, as second woman (VAI female) rector in the history of Nordic countries. During her 17 years of office, so far the longest period in the history of the university, she has efficiently promoted internationalisation, and high quality of both research and education at the university. As first in Finland, Rector Sallinen was nominated Professor of Speech Communication in 1985. She has played a remarkable role in developing Finnish speech communication culture as well as negotiation skills. She has written numerous articles and presented radio features on literature, culture, leadership, teaching and communication. She is a desired speaker and lecturer at national and international conferences and forums. Professor Sallinen has versatile contacts both in Finland and in international academic and business life. She has had many positions of trust and expert assignments in government committees and agencies of higher education, technology, research strategy and funding, Finnish economy, as well as in art and children and youth foundations. She has also been active member of the panel for the evaluation of European universities. Experience in the private sector she has gained through long-time confidential posts in one of the largest banks in Scandinavia The President of the Republic of Finland has nominated Rector Sallinen Chancellor of the Order of the White Rose and the Lion of Finland. In 2007 she was decorated the highest ranking Grand Cross of the Order of the White Rose of Finland |
