Dr. DAN STEINBOCK

Dr Dan Steinbock explores issues of international business and international relations among the advanced economies and the large emerging economies. As Research Director of International Business at the India, China and America Institute (ICA), he currently examines the impact of the global crisis worldwide, as well as the competitiveness of nations, metropolises and multinationals. He divides his time between New York City, Shanghai and occasionally Helsinki.

He gives regularly keynotes in chambers of commerce and business councils and has also moderated international corporate conferences in U.S., Europe and Asia, including with Jack Welch, former CEO of GE. He contributes op-eds, commentaries and policy briefs for leading publications in the US, Europe and Asia.

As an expert of global mobile communications, he also serves as Faculty Spokesman for the Forum to Advance Mobile Experience (FAME), an initiative by the CMO Council, representing over 6,000 global executives across 57 countries. He has published extensively on clusters and cooperated with Prof Michael E. Porter. He has released half a dozen books in the United States, including The Nokia Revolution. Many of his books and articles have been translated to several languages.

Dr Steinbock has consulted for multinational corporations and SMEs, international organizations (OECD, European Commission, Nordic Council, Baltic Development Forum), cities (from Shanghai to Greater Helsinki) and governments. He has cooperated with and contributed to leading think-tanks, business schools, trade associations, international studies institutes, government agencies, innovation institutes, universities, executive education/EMBA/corporate training programs in the U.S., Europe, Asia and the Persian Gulf. He has fellowships, professorships and advisory tasks and his contributions have been published in leading journals in US, Europe and Asia. He has been interviewed by the leading American media.

In Finland, Dr Steinbock has consulted for the largest companies and SMEs, municipalities, the Parliament committees, most government ministries and all innovation institutions. He serves as a  columnist/contributor for Finland’s leading business weeklies and dailies, and in several corporate magazines.  He has served as Director of the NYC office of the Academy of Finland and Director of the Center for International Business Research at the Helsinki School of Economics, where he remains Visiting Professor of International Business and lectures on clusters and globalization, competitiveness and innovation. He is also Docent at the Helsinki University.
